Frequently Asked Questions About Renting A Dumpster

How long can I have the dumpster?
We generally allow our customers to have the dumpster for a week. During the winter when demand is lower we allow more time. We make some allowances for regular customers and for jobs where the weather slows things down.

How do I fill the dumpster?
All our dumpsters have a door in the rear that swings open to allow for ease of loading.

How full can I fill the dumpster?
Level full UNLESS the load is brick, concrete or dirt. Because of weight restrictions during hauling we can’t legally haul more than 10 yards of heavy material at a time.  Our disposal costs are based on weight. Prices are quoted as good up to a certain weight.  Overweight dumpsters will be assessed a fee of $50 per ton. (eg. a dumpster that is 1.18 tons overweight will be charged an additional $59.00)  The full weight of the dumpster cannot be determined until it is weighed and emptied at the disposal site.  Therefore, we may contact you after dumping to inform you of any overage.  You are responsible for this cost.

Will the dumpster leave marks on my driveway?
We place long boards under the dumpster to protect the driveway surface. We don’t know the condition of every driveway so we cannot guarantee the dumpster will not mark the driveway surface but we do our best to protect it.

Do you supply barricades?
Yes. We provide them free of charge. No contractor should have to return to a job site just to pick up barricades.

I don’t have a place to put a dumpster. Can I still get service?
Yes! We will come and wait for up to one hour while you load the dumpster. You must provide the labor to fill it. Wait time over one hour will be billed at $25 per ¼ hour.

How do I pay for my dumpster?
We accept Cash, VISA, Discover, MasterCard and American Express.  Business and Personal checks will be accepted with proper ID. There is a $25.00 fee for checks returned to us N.S.F.  Payment is expected at the time the dumpster is delivered unless other arrangements have been made.  Repeat customers may establish an account and be billed monthly.  Ask for a credit application.

Do you recycle?
The transfer stations we dump at handle all of the sorting and recycling.  As markets for recycled goods expand, more and more material can be recycled.  Roofing, plastic and wood are just a few of the materials that are recycled.  If you have a load that’s all paper, cardboard, or metal we will take it straight to a recycler.

What permits are necessary for the City of Chicago?
Any dumpster on a street in Chicago city limits needs a permit. A 3 day permit is $50.00 and a 30 day permit is $100.00. Heritage Disposal will get the permit and you will pay for it as part of the dumpster cost. Multiple exchanges in the same location only need ONE permit as long as they’re filled within the 3 or 30 day time frame. Dumpsters on private property don’t need a permit
